BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — The Brookville Borough Police Department has charged a 53-year-old man with fraudulent business practices and theft-related offenses following an investigation into a local taxidermy operation.
According to police, Chad Kurtz, of Brookville, was charged after an investigation that began in 2024 and examined business practices dating back to November 2019.
Authorities allege Kurtz operated Chad Kurtz Taxidermy in Brookville and accepted payment from 16 known victims for taxidermy work. Police say Kurtz received animal hides and other parts to complete the work, accepted partial payment or payments in full, and then failed to provide the completed taxidermy as promised.
Police further allege Kurtz failed to return animal hides to victims after requests were made.
Kurtz was arrested on a warrant and placed in the Jefferson County Jail. Charges were filed through Magisterial District Judge Bazylak’s office.
Brookville Borough Police are asking anyone with information related to this investigation, or anyone who believes they may be a victim, to contact the department at 814-849-5323.
