According to police, a deceased dog was discovered by a homeowner on a hunting property near the end of Rabbit Hill Road. Troopers said the dog appeared to show signs of having been severely beaten, including missing teeth and a broken muzzle.
The homeowner reported noticing the dog on January 10, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m. while walking on the property. Police said the homeowner indicated he had never seen the dog before and was unaware of where it may have come from, adding that he did not know anyone in the area who owned a beagle.
The homeowner also told troopers he believed the dog may have been at the location for at least a week and had been buried under snow, though the exact timeline remains unclear. Police said two blankets were used to wrap the dog.
