CLARION TWP, Pa. (EYT) — State Police have released details on a crash involving a local man that was killed while he was clearing snow from a driveway on New Year’s morning.

According to a report released on Wednesday morning from PSP Clarion, the fatal incident occurred at 11:20 a.m. on State Route 322 near C-L School Road in Clarion Township.

Investigators reported that 66-year old Terry L. Wensel Sr. of Strattanville, was operating a Cub Cadet garden tractor. Wensel was pushing snow from a driveway and attempted to cross the highway to push snow into a ditch.

State police said a 1998 Freightliner FL70 was traveling west on State Route 322 at the same time. The tractor pulled out directly in front of the truck, according to the report.

The Freightliner struck the garden tractor, both vehicles came to a final rest on the shoulder of the eastbound lane. Wensel succumbed to his injuries, the reporting officer stated.

Wensel was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:45 p.m. by Clarion County Deputy Coroner Lexis Twentier.

The driver of the Freightliner, 26-year old Josh D. Riddle of Brookville, was wearing a lap and shoulder belt and was not injured.

According to the report, the Freightliner required towing from the scene.

In addition to the Coroner’s Office and PSP Clarion, the Strattanville Volunteer Fire Company and Clarion Hospital Ambulance responded to the scene.
