POLK, Pa. (EYT) – A Venango County woman is behind bars without bail after allegedly stabbing another patient to death at a personal care home on Saturday morning.
According to Trooper Cirell of the Pennsylvania State Police Franklin Station, police responded to a call at the Sugar Valley Lodge on Church Street in Polk Borough at approximately 8:56 a.m. Venango County 9-1-1 reported that a patient had been stabbed several times by another patient at the facility.
Upon arrival, troopers found the victim, 60-year-old Mary Gruphofer, deceased in her room. Police say the suspect, Dyan A. Diven, 48, of Polk, was immediately taken into custody at the scene.
Following consultation with the Venango County District Attorney’s Office, Diven was charged with criminal homicide. She was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Andrew Fish, who denied bail.
Diven was subsequently remanded to the Venango County Prison. The Troop E Major Case Team was activated to investigate the incident.
