BELLEFONTE — The Clearfield Lady Bison wrestling team improved their record to 3-0 on the season with a 42-6 win over the host Lady Red Raiders on Thursday night in Bellefonte.
Of the four contested bouts, three pins went the way of the visitors.
After there was no contest at 100 or 106, Ashley Rougeux (10-4) started the dual meet scoring with a forfeit at 112 for the Lady Bison.
Gabbie Duncan (8-5) received the same treatment at 118 and the visitors found themselves up 12-0 before a match was wrestled.
That changed at 124 as Finley Gilbert (10-5) gave up the opening takedown and was down 8-2 after the first period to Bellefonte’s Carly Bair (4-4). Bair made the mistake of starting the second period on her feet as Gilbert earned a takedown and fall 30 seconds later to put the Lady Bison up 18-0.
Ivy Sanders (8-5) received a forfeit to put the ladies from Clearfield up 24-0.
Angela Rougeux (11-3) made it 30-0 at 136 when she built up an 11-0 lead in the second period and then pinned Lady Red Raider Victoria Schellenberg (2-5) in 2:59.
After there was no contest at 142, the hosts finally got on the board at 148.
Ella Johnsonbaugh (11-6) was down 9-0 in the final period against Clearfield’s Alara Quickel (9-5), but was able to work from the top and earned the come-from-behind fall in 4:33 to make it 30-6.
The final contested bout came at 155 and it was a rematch from earlier in the season as Bellefonte’s Bailee Scott had pinned Clearfield’s Makayla Taylor in the finals of the Clearfield tournament on December 29. It looked like it would be the same result here as Scott had a 7-point move to start the match. Taylor narrowed the gap to 7-4 before the end of the opening period though. Taylor (8-3) reversed off of the bottom in the second and pinned Scott (7-6) in 3:37.
After no match at 170, the final points were put on the board by the Lady Bisons as Jocelyn Nixon (10-4) received the fourth forfeit to set the final at 42-6.
The Lady Bison will be back in action this weekend when they head to DuBois for the Queen of the Dam tourney.
