GASKILL TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A Mahaffey man was transported to the hospital after his pickup truck overturned during a single-vehicle crash in Jefferson County on Wednesday afternoon, according to state police.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:11 p.m. on January 7 along Route 36, just south of Sandy Ridge Road, in Gaskill Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police in Punxsutawney.
Troopers said Ronald W. Bennett, 72, was traveling south when his Chevrolet Trax drifted off the southbound shoulder and hit a dumpster. The vehicle crossed the roadway, left the northbound side of the road, and struck an embankment and a utility pole.
Police said the pickup overturned after hitting a storm drain grate before coming to rest. The vehicle traveled an estimated 400 feet before stopping.
Bennett suffered suspected minor injuries. He was transported to the hospital by Jefferson County EMS, the police report stated.
The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was removed from the scene by Smitty’s Towing.
Police cited Bennett for a violation of driving on the right side of the roadway.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including Big Run Area Fire Department, Mahaffey Fire Department, Jefferson County EMS, Smitty’s Towing, REA Energy, Jefferson County PennDOT, and Clearfield County PennDOT.
