DUBOIS- Historical celebrations marked the official consolidation of the former City of DuBois and Sandy Township into one unified City of DuBois on Monday.
The inauguration ceremony and organizational meeting was led by interim city management, Ben Kafferlin and Lisa Hagberg at the Reitz Theater CRI.
President Judge Paul E. Cherry administered the Oaths of Office of the newly elected Mayor, City Council and City of DuBois Police Officers, marking the beginning of service of unified city leadership.
Council members for a four-year term are Shirley Dahrouge, Samuel Mollica III, Mark Sullivan, J. Barry Abbott, Sr., William Beers Jr.
Richard Whitaker and Michael Piccirillo will serve two-year terms.
J. Barry Abbot, Sr. will serve as Mayor and Shirley Dahrouge as Council Vice President.
City council then recessed from business to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at the newly renovated City Hall commemorating a 4.6 million dollar project. Guest speakers included Rick Villello, Deputy Secretary of Pennsylvania DCED, State Rep. Mike Armanini, County Commissioner Tim Winters and various other county and local dignitaries.
