MILL HALL — McKenzie Astorino (100), Isabella Neff (136) and Emily Neeper (235) all went 6-0 Sunday at the Central Mountain Duals, leading the Curwensville girls wrestling team to a 3-3 record and overall sixth-place finish in the eight-team event.

Astorino picked up four pins and two forfeit victories to improve to 13-0 this season. The freshman honorable mention in the PA-wrestling.com rankings earned a late, first-period fall with a bar and and a half over second-ranked Isabella Olshefskie in the Lady Tide’s 54-24 loss to Hughesville.

Curwensville opened with a 33-30 victory over the host Lady Wildcats, who placed third overall, before falling to Hughesville. The Lady Tide followed with a 42-18 win over State College then dropped a 48-30 decision to Central York. Curwensville beat State College by an identical 42-18 score in the consolation semifinals but fell in the fifth-place dual 48-30 to Pocono Mountain West.

Neff (11-4) had three pins and three forfeits, while Neeper, who is 13-1 this season, notched three pins, a win by injury default, a forfeit and a 4-0 decision over Central Mountain’s Ashlynn Miller. That was the deciding bout between the two teams.

“Emily wrestled a great match versus Central Mountain’s Ashlyn Miller, winning with a late takedown in the third period to seal the win,” Curwensville head coach Michael Astorino said. “Bella had some big throws for three pins.”

Brylee London (13-1) went 5-1 at 142 with her only loss coming to Hughesville’s Avery Earnest, a PA-wrestling honorable mention. All five of London’s victories were by pin.

Andria Moore (124) and Allison Neeper (170) both went 4-2 in their matchups, while Kendall Candelaria (148) was 3-3.

Curwensville was 21-8 with 17 pins in contested bouts. The Lady Tide, who are missing several girls due to injury, gave up 28 forfeits over the six matches.

“The girls wrestled well this weekend,” Astorino said. “We are down to seven wrestlers due to illness and injuries.  The team should be closer to full strength when we host the District 5-6-9 duals Jan 31.

The Lady Tide are 6-6 in dual meet action this season.

They return to action Sat. Dec. 27 and Sun. Dec. 28 at the Powerade Tournament.
