Union Pulls Away From Tide in Fourth

RIMERSBURG — The Curwensville boys basketball team was outscored by host Union 10-3 in the fourth quarter  and fell to the Knights 48-40 on Thursday evening.

The Golden Tide led 15-13 after one behind a pair of treys – one from Owen Dimmick and another by Evan McCartney, who also canned four free throws in the frame to help his team build the 2-point advantage.

Louie Tkacik added a 3-pointer in the second and McCartney drilled his second from long distance as Curwensville took a 24-21 lead to the break.

But Union won the third by a 17-13 count to take a 38-37 advantage to the fourth where they pulled away.

McCartney, who had 10 of the Tide’s 13 third-quarter points, paced Curwensville with 20 points. Dimmick and Breck Finn each added six for the Tide, who slipped to 0-3 this season.

Curwensville returns to Union High School on Friday, Dec. 5 to play Kane on the second day of the Union Tip-Off Tournament.
