In addition to performers, CAST is also seeking volunteers to assist with set construction, sound and lighting, costumes, stage direction, and more. Both students and adults are welcome to help, although volunteers age 18 and older must provide Pennsylvania Criminal Background and Child Abuse Clearances. Interested volunteers may speak with the directors during auditions or contact CAST directly for more information.
Performances of Disney’s Newsies Jr. are scheduled for February 6–7 and 12–14 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on February 8 at 3 p.m.
The show, with a book by Harvey Fierstein and music by Alan Menken, is a 60-minute adaptation of the Broadway musical based on the 1992 film. It tells the story of Jack Kelly and the newsboys as they rally together to strike against unfair working conditions, discovering the power of unity and the importance of standing up for what is right.
The production team includes co-directors Mason and Kellie Strouse, music director Ty Elensky, choreographers Breanna and Josh Blaylock, stage manager Shelby Flanagan, and student stage manager Audrey Harmic.
