HENDERSON TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A structure fire Monday evening in Henderson Township claimed the life of one man, and drew a response from a dozen fire and EMS teams across two counties.
Emergency crews received a call at 6:55 p.m. regarding a fire on Desire Road, according to a Jefferson County 9-1-1 representative. The initial dispatch indicated that flames were visible and had spread to nearby trees. Reports also noted an entrapment at the scene.
Jefferson County Coroner Brenda Shumaker confirmed there was one fatality. Shumaker stated the victim was an adult male. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim pending notification of his family.
Responders from multiple agencies arrived to battle the flames. According to 9-1-1 officials, Jefferson County units included Sykesville Fire Department, Reynoldsville Fire Department, and McCalmont Township Volunteer Fire Company. Big Run Area Volunteer Fire Company, Central Fire Department of Punxsutawney, and Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company also responded.
Fire companies from Clearfield County assisted at the scene. These included Brady Township Fire, Rescue and Ambulance Inc., West Sandy Hose Co. #1, and Goodwill Hose Co. 5. Fourth Ward Hose Company #4 and Mahaffey Fire Department served on standby.
Sykesville Ambulance, Jefferson County EMS, and Amserv Ltd. Dusan Community Ambulance provided medical services.
Emergency personnel cleared the scene at 11:30 p.m.
