CLEARFIELD – A former Kylertown man, who failed to register with police as required by Megan’s Law, was given a long state prison term Friday during sentencing court.
Kenneth Leon Teats, 69, was convicted of two felony counts of failure to register with state police after a recent trial. On Friday, President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman sentenced him to serve a total of eight to 16 years in state prison with 24 months re-entry probation.
His attorney, Ken Pennington, argued for each count to run concurrent with each other, saying they are essentially the same crime.
Deputy District Attorney Tami Fees responded that each count was a different requirement he failed to follow. She also noted that he has failed to comply with the conditions of reporting regularly with authorities “more than once.”
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Nov. 17, 2023 Teats left the Kylertown Motel where he was registered as staying. He failed to notify authorities of this change and his whereabouts were unknown.
The PA Megan’s Law website lists that Teats was convicted for two cases of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse in 1994.
Media reports from that time indicate that he was facing multiple charges for having sexual relations with two underage boys, aged 13 and 17.
