State police are investigating a reported social media grant scam in Jefferson County, a theft from a bank account in Clearfield County, and a separate theft of tools in Clearfield County.

According to a report, troopers responded to an incident on November 7 in Winslow Township, Jefferson County. A 65-year-old Reynoldsville man reported he was the victim of a theft by deception. The complainant was led to believe he was sending money to a federal institution to receive a monetary grant, police said. The man sent $250 in Apple gift cards. Police said the crime originated via social media.

State police are also investigating a theft by deception in Huston Township, Clearfield County. A 79-year-old Penfield woman came to the barracks to relate that money was missing from her bank account. That investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident, police are investigating a theft in Brady Township, Clearfield County. Troopers responded to Chapman Trailer Court on October 10. A 44-year-old DuBois man reported that a Crafts toolbox, an impact drill, and assorted hand tools were stolen from his property. The items were valued at $100. All investigations are ongoing, according to police.
