DUBOIS, Pa. (EYT) — State police have filed new charges, including a felony count of escape, against a Jefferson County Jail inmate who remains missing after walking away from a work release program in DuBois last week.
John Russ Moon, 58, of North Versailles, faces one third-degree felony count of escape and one second-degree misdemeanor count of flight to avoid apprehension.
The charges were filed by Punxsutawney-based State Police on Monday, November 10, according to court documents. The docket lists the offense date as November 7.
Authorities previously reported Moon walked away from his work release in DuBois on Friday morning, November 7.
State police said Moon is believed to still be in the DuBois area.
A representative from the Jefferson County Jail confirmed on Tuesday afternoon, November 11, that Moon has not yet been returned to custody.
Jefferson County Jail Warden Dustin Myers said Moon was under probation supervision, not the jail’s, when he left the program.
Myers added that Moon had been incarcerated due to unpaid fines.
Police ask anyone who has seen Moon or knows his whereabouts to call 9-1-1.
