JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) — A Punxsutawney man accused of sending a woman a series of vulgar and threatening messages pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct on Thursday, while a more serious charge of harassment was dropped.
Court records show that a third-degree misdemeanor harassment charge against 33-year-old Devin Jordan Young was withdrawn during a preliminary hearing November 6 before Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline Mizerock.
The case was then moved to non-traffic court, where Young pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly conduct, a summary offense.
According to court documents, Young paid court costs and fees of $198.75, and the case is closed.
Case background:
According to a criminal complaint, Punxsutawney Borough Police received a report on October 8 from a woman who said she had been receiving lewd and threatening messages from Young over the last several months. She provided police with copies of multiple messages from Young.
In one of the messages, Young told the woman to “Do everyone a favor and drop dead,” and “I wish you would go jump off a bridge,” the complaint said.
The complaint states that in other messages, Young called the woman a “dumb *****,” “fugly,” a “snaggled toothed scag,” and a “******* pig.” Allegedly he told her to “go jump off a bridge” several more times.
According to the complaint, Young also wrote, “You known what they outta do to u lock u up in a cage of a nursing home in the basement,” and “Its your guts I ******* hate.”
The woman told police that as a result of the repeated harassment, she considered harming herself, but is doing better with the help of a support group, the complaint notes.
The complaint states that police made multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact Young.
