CLEARFIELD-Concerns about communication and expectations were raised by a parent during Monday’s Clearfield Area School Board meeting.
A parent spoke during visitor comments regarding his son’s experience with the junior high team and the parents’ experience in communicating with the coach.
When he started going into detail the board president stopped him and said that if they were going to discuss specifics about an employee they would need to go into executive session.
The parent agreed and said he would be willing to set up a separate meeting, then spoke in generalities about not being able to get specific information on expectations or goals for the team or their son.
He said that he also contacted the athletic director via email but it didn’t seem that there was much concern and the parents also couldn’t determine if there any policies in place where the coaches outline expectations from everyone involved as well as values and goals.
As a result, he put together a packet with copies of the emails and texts with the athletic director and coach and an outline of a plan the district could use to improve communications and interactions between staff, students and parents.
A few items of interest were noted during staff reports, including the return of the backpack program last weekend where students in need are given backpacks with meals for their weekend on Fridays.
The junior class is also preparing for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, which will be entirely digital this year.
Also, the seventh grade students recently had a field trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo and on Tuesday the tenth grade students will be visiting Gettysburg National Military Park.
