CLEARFIELD – A Grampian man wanted for attempted homicide for allegedly stabbing another man, was taken into custody Monday morning.

On Sunday, Clearfield Regional Police issued a public notice that they were searching for Daniel Jeffrey Weaver, 36, who had fled the scene of an assault at a Woodland Road residence in Lawrence Township at 2:40 p.m. that day.

They were able to apprehend him on Monday at 10:22 a.m., according to information from the department.

He was arraigned before District Judge Joseph M. Morris on charges of criminal attempt-murder and two felony counts of aggravated assault as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of a weapon, terroristic threats, and recklessly endangering another person. He was denied bail.

The criminal complaint details how police received a call about a man who had been cut in the neck with a machete before meeting with witnesses at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

The first witness was standing outside near a vehicle. He was “visibly upset and distraught”. He explained the victim was inside the hospital and apologized for driving so fast through town to get to there.

Another witness who came out of the hospital, told police the victim was inside the facility and was “almost dead” because he had been cut in the neck with a machete. She related that the incident occurred at a home on Woodland Road.

Both of these witnesses told the officers that they along with the victim had stopped to visit a man at that address. Prior to arriving, she said Weaver had been sending her messages telling her to bring the victim to the home.

When the victim entered the residence, Weaver reportedly pulled out a knife or machete and a physical altercation occurred which consisted of “pushing and shoving.” These two witnesses said they did not see the action occur but could hear the scuffling from inside the house.

She said she was in the back seat of the car when she heard the altercation and someone yelling “I’m going to kill you!” She then heard someone else say, “Don’t do this Dan.”

Both witnesses said they did not know the victim had been cut until they entered the residence and saw a large amount of blood. As they entered the apartment, they saw the resident holding Weaver back from the door. The victim was still conscious and breathing at that time.

With this information, the officers proceeded to the residence where the assault occurred. The resident met them outside and said Weaver had left but he was unsure of the direction he was headed.

He allegedly hesitated when the officers asked for his consent to search the apartment but did agree to allow them into his home.

As they entered, police saw blood splattered on the steps, along the door and doorframe with a pool of blood inside the doorway which was consistent with the witness accounts.

Officers searched the living room and kitchen area without locating anyone else. When they began to approach the other rooms and called out for Weaver, the resident said “Dan is not here” and immediately rescinded his consent to search the rest of the home, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

As they were leaving, the resident advised the officers to “check his pockets” because Weaver still had the weapon on his person.

In another interview with investigators, the second witness provided them with copies of her messages from Weaver, which included threats of violence, according to the report.

Information released from the hospital confirmed that the victim had sustained a severe laceration to the right side of his neck consistent with the use of a bladed weapon. The victim was transported to another hospital for advanced medical treatment.

Weaver is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 8 at 8:30 a.m. during centralized court.
