CURWENSVILLE- A local man will embark on a long journey to honor and mourn our nation’s heroes.
Travis McCracken, founder of Guardian-Outreach, a local Veteran-owned non-profit organization will ‘March for the 22’ on September 7- 11 to bring awareness to the 22 Veterans that are lost each day to suicide.
McCracken will begin at Curwensville Veteran’s Park at 7 a.m. with coffee and prayers with the public and supporters. At approximately 9 a.m. a Chaplain will give the benediction will be given and the march will commence.
McCracken will ruck march and carry the American Flag approximately 22 miles a day from to the United flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville. The first four days will represent one of the four flights that were hijacked on 9/11, American flight 11 North Tower; United flight 175, South Tower, American flight 77, Pentagon and United flight 93.
The fifth day of the march, which is on September 11, will be to remember and mourn the 4.7 million people that have been lost since September 11, 2001. He will then finish by traveling the final 2.2 miles past the Tower of Voice and into the sober memorial for flight 93 with hope for spiritual, emotional and physical solace.
March for the 22 Route:
Day 1- September 7, 22 miles, departing from Curwensville Veteran’s Park on Route 879 toward Grampian. Travel 16 miles and turn left onto Market Street at stop sign into Mahaffey, then continue 4.4 miles turn right onto PA 36 S. Main St. and continue 1.6 miles to Alfishrl Lane.
Day 2- September 8, 22 miles. Continue on PA 36 south for 13.3 miles, turn right onto Sunset Road, travel 7.3 miles, continue up the 219 south ramp to the top 1.4 miles.
Day 3- September 9, 22 miles. Continue down 219 south travel 22 miles just past Windber exit.
Day 4- September 10, 22 miles. Continue down 219 south 13.4 miles to exit for Storytown on 30 east, continue on 30 east 8.6 miles to Approach Road.
Day 5- September 11, 2.2 miles. Travel 2.2 miles to the Flight 93 National Memorial Complex.
