BURNSIDE- The Burnside Bible Church will hold it’s 150th Anniversary Celebration on September 7 with special services.
Events are scheduled throughout the day with an 11 a.m. morning service and a 2:30 p.m. afternoon sing.
The public is invited to attend the celebration. The church is located at 65 E. 3rd Street in Burnside.
History of the Burnside Bible Church:
Burnside Bible Church was originally the Methodist Episcopal Church in Burnside. The first services were held in the nearby Union Church and in 1875 a church was built. A 27 year-old Civil War veteran from Ohio, Rev. George Ague (1848-1922) was the first pastor to serve the church.
Burnside Bible Church was originally the Methodist Episcopal Church in Burnside. Alterations to the original building were made in 1915. The Methodist Episcopal Church merged with the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) in 1968 and the Burnside Church was eventually know as Burnside United Methodist Church. It was part of the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church and linked with Cherry Tree, Emeigh and Susquehanna in what was known as a 4-point charge.
Rev. Ronald Eugene Marshall served the church as pastor from 1969-2006, the longest serving pastor out of a total of 40 pastors. In it’s 150 year history, the church has endured through a number of fires with the original two-story historic church destroyed completely in 1992.
In June 2023, the congregation reorganized as Burnside Bible Church and called Rev. John Delozier as pastor in October 2023. Rev. Delozier, a native of York County.
