CLEARFIELD-The new school year got off to a great start Monday when students from grades 1-12 returned to school at Clearfield Area School District.
The Clearfield Area School Board learned that the Kindergarten students had an orientation Monday night and half of the students will have their first day Tuesday and the other half on Wednesday with the full complement of Kindergarteners starting Thursday.
It was noted that this year has graduating classes from 2026 through 2038.
During new business the board voted on three things.
The first was to authorize the administration and solicitor to undertake necessary steps to enter into an agreement of sale, advertise and petition the court to secure any necessary court approvals and to sell district realty at 2075 Highview Rd.
The property is the former Centre Elementary School located near Hyde. It has been rented and used by Soaring Heights Academy for several years and the district has decided to allow Soaring Heights to purchase the property outright.
The second item was a motion to extend Keystone Opportunity Zone for another ten years in the Firemen’s Industrial Park.
The last company to take advantage of the KOZ was Tafco when they moved their facility to the industrial park and recently expanded.
The KOZ will be extended until 2035.
Finally the board approved a motion to approve the settlement agreement and mutual release of claims between Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School and the Clearfield Area School District.
PLCS claimed that the district did not pay them for services several years ago while the district maintains that the payment was made.
The issue has been in the courts for more than five years and the two entities have finally come to a settlement agreement.
