Road Projects to Move Forward in Lawrence Township

LAWRENCE TWP.- The last time the board of Lawrence Township supervisors got together, things got slightly heated at the start of the meeting. All eyes, and ears, were listening in to see if that hostility would continue two weeks later.

Whatever hostility that occurred two weeks earlier was not seen when the meeting was called to order, and things remained civil throughout the short time the board was together.

Township manager, Ashley Pritchard, saw both her resolutions for Multimodal Grants pass through the supervisors, one for Flegal Road, and the second for along Turnpike Avenue. The grants will be used for paving projects in both areas, with the sum of both coming to just over $800,000.

Recreation Park treasurer, Ronald Porter, asked the supervisors about the concrete that was coming in to fix some of the padded areas around the park. Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner noted to him that the plan is moving forward to have them done, and at the same time will also be putting in new concrete for the flag pole. Ruffner noted that this was going to be done at the same time to save from having the need to bring two concrete trucks in for two orders. Porter also asked about the pad for where the ADA equipment is located, as they will be removing one of the slides and gravel to give better access to folks that need ADA equipment to move around.

The Rec Park Board also saw the acceptance to reappoint Carolyn Smeal to the board.

Code Enforcement Officer, Agatha Lauder, told the supervisors that the hearing about the property the township purchased at 1215 Woodland Road occurred and the decision went in their favor. As such, Lauder said they are now waiting for the current tenant to be given their notice to leave the property. Lauder also noted that the cabins that were requested to have conditional use as an Airbnb was accepted at 1301 Carbon Mine Road, and the supervisors accepted the motion.

It was noted by supervisor Randy Powell that the board received a letter of resignation from the Clearfield Municipal Authority by Wayne Smith. His resignation was accepted, with his last day of service being Friday, July 25. The supervisors then accepted the motion to open the position to individuals interested to fill the vacancy.

Letters of interest will be accepted until the day of the next township meeting on Tuesday, August 5, at Noon. The scheduled meeting for that day will take place at 5 p.m.
