CLEARFIELD- On Tuesday the Clearfield County Commissioners held a short meeting and conducted regular business.
Commissioner David Glass gave an update on broadband service to the area.
He said last year the Pennsylvania Broadband Authority took proposals for fiber optic installation, and were preparing to move forward when the federal government put a hold on everything.
Last week new guidance was received from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and PA Broadband decided to keep the proposals already received and open a second round for proposals.
Glass said he understands that the grant funding for broadband will be the first and last opportunity for funding and they are hoping to have enough applicants to cover not only our area, but the state as a whole.
Now it could be another 18-24 months before work actually begins on installing fiber optic cable, and he has also heard that companies like Starlink might also be included in the grant funding, but he hasn’t received confirmation.
Glass said he would update as more information becomes available.
The commissioners also confirmed Scott James McCracken to the Curwensville Lake Authority and Sue Diehl and Amanda Thompson to the America 250 committee. Thompson will be replacing Dianne Byers as the representative of The Progress.
