HARRISBURG — Attorney General Dave Sunday, in conjunction with the 52nd Statewide Investigating Grand Jury, announced that a Clearfield County man is charged with third-degree murder regarding the overdose death of Dalton Cole.
Clint Addleman, 48, of Morrisdale, is already incarcerated on unrelated federal charges, and was charged last year by the Office of Attorney General and the Pennsylvania State Police in regard to Cole’s death. Last month, the Grand Jury recommended a third-degree murder charge based upon additional information gathered as a result of the continuing investigation by the Office of Attorney General and the Pennsylvania State Police.
Cole went to Addleman’s home on June 13, 2019, to buy methamphetamine. At the home, Addleman, who was Cole’s regular supplier of methamphetamine, provided Cole with heroin/fentanyl, which Cole was led to believe, by Addleman, was methamphetamine.
“This case is yet another example of how fentanyl tears apart families and devastates communities,” Attorney General Sunday said. “I commend the Grand Jurors who committed much time and effort to hearing this case before deciding that this conduct was murder, and we will pursue that charge in court.”
As a result of the use of the heroin/fentanyl supplied by Addleman, Cole overdosed and was pronounced dead at Penn Highlands Healthcare in DuBois. Cole had been transported to Penn Highlands Healthcare by a friend of Addleman’s girlfriend. Addleman’s girlfriend resided at the house with Addleman. She had called the friend to assist with Cole, despite Addleman’s protests to not get anyone involved, specifically the police and emergency medical services.
The Grand Jury previously recommended Addleman be charged with possession with the intent to deliver and three counts of intimidation of a witness. Those charges are currently pending.
The most recent charge will be prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General David C. Gorman of the Drug Strike Force Section. Criminal charges, and any discussion thereof, are merely allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
