PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney woman is facing a charge of simple assault following an alleged domestic incident at a Cherry Street residence, according to Punxsutawney Borough Police.
According to the criminal complaint, Officer Jeffrey Winfield was dispatched to the woman’s residence on June 18 for a report of an active domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, Officer Winfield reported hearing yelling coming from inside the home, including a man shouting, “Help, assault. Look, I’m bleeding now.”
Officer Winfield said he made contact with 37-year-old Carrie Sharpe, Sharpe’s daughter, and the victim.
The officer first spoke with Carrie Sharpe, who reportedly told him that the man had broken into the house, the complaint states.
When questioned further, Sharpe allegedly clarified that while the victim lived in the basement apartment, he was not supposed to be in the upstairs apartment. She reportedly stated he did not assault her but said he pushed past her at the doorway, which caused her to move to the side, according to the complaint.
When interviewed, the victim stated the basement apartment was being renovated, the complaint notes.
According to the complaint, the victim alleged that Sharpe had drilled the basement door shut. He claimed Sharpe exited the apartment through the window.
The victim told police he followed Sharpe as she walked toward the front door, according to the complaint. He reportedly said Sharpe pushed him and swung at him, striking him several times on the left side of his head, the complaint continues.
Officer Winfield said he observed red marks and scratches on the victim’s face. According to the victim’s account, after being pushed to the ground, Sharpe’s daughter opened the front door, and Sharpe stepped over him to enter the house. The two continued arguing until police arrived, according to the complaint.
Sharpe was arrested by Punxsutawney Borough Police and charged with one count of simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor, according to court documents filed in Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office.
Court records show that Sharpe was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana on June 19.
She is currently free on $10,000.00 unsecured bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 23 before Judge Mizerock.
