SHIPPENSBURG — Clearfield’s Brady Collins added more hardware to his collection of state medals Saturday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
Collins, a three-time state medalist in wrestling and a medalist (7th in the 300 hurdles) at last year’s state track meet, added three more at the 2025 Class 3A edition.
He took sixth in the 110 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles and placed eighth in the 100 meter dash. He also once again broke his own school records in both hurdle events.
Collins’ best finish came in the 300 hurdles where he ran a time of 37.71, which was nearly a second faster than his fourth-place preliminary time of 38.53.
In the 110 hurdles, Collins crossed the line in sixth place in a time of 14.48, which was slightly faster than his qualifying time of 14.53, which was the fourth-fastest the day before.
Palmyra’s Tyler Burgess, the defending state champion in both hurdle events and a Texas Tech recruit, won both again this year. His time of 13.63 in the 110 hurdles broke his own state record (13.65) he set the day before in prelims. The previous state mark of 13.69 was set in 2018 by North Allegheny’s Ayden Owens.
Collins added an eighth-place finish in the 100 meter dash, running a time of 10.82, which was slightly slower than his sixth-place qualifying time of 10.76 in Friday’s preliminary heats. Central Dauphin’s Gabriel Scott won the gold medal with a time of 10.43
Clearfield’s Kai Lynch didn’t quite make the podium in the long jump, but he placed in the top half of competitors in the event, coming in 11th out of 28 athletes with a leap of 21-7.75. Reading’s Xavier Beatty won the long jump title with a mark of 24-4.
Lady Bison Haley Custaney also competed at the PIAA meet in the 100 and 300 hurdles, placing 22nd and 39th, respectively. She had a time of 15.90 in the 100 hurdles and 51.62 in the 300.
Spring Grove’s Ella Bahn won both hurdle events on the girls side, running a 13.64 in the 100 and a 41.98 in the 300, which was just .06 faster than runner-up Aydriane Bowden from Kennett. Bahn, a junior, now has five gold medals in three different events at PIAAs in three appearances at the state meet.
