CLEARFIELD – A Philipsburg man has been charged with burglarizing two businesses in Chester Hill.
Police say Shawn Joseph Bumbarger, 40, broke into a convenience store and a pizza shop on Walton Street in the early morning hours of May 8.
According to the affidavits of probable cause, after police arrived to investigate a smashed glass door at the store, they saw an open door at the neighboring pizza shop.
The shop was observed “to be heavily burglarized” with multiple items smashed and thrown throughout the building.
Surveillance camera footage shows a man walking from the area of the pizza shop to the store. He was wearing a black sweatshirt, black gym shorts, sneakers and a gray undershirt. The suspect entered the store and gathered a large tub of beef jerky, 10 packs of cigarettes, nicotine vape pens and other convenience items.
The suspect was recognized by employees of the store as “Shawn” who was a regular customer who previously worked at the pizza shop. Further investigation identified him as Shawn Bumbarger.
A search warrant was executed on Bumbarger’s residence later that same day. Multiple items taken from the store and cash from the pizza shop were found, according to the report.
Bumbarger, who was at the home at that time, was taken into custody.
He is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief in both cases.
During centralized court on Wednesday, Bumbarger waived his right to preliminary hearings, sending the cases on to the county court. His bail is set at $250,000 in each case.
