Siple Homers Twice, Combines with Irwin on 3-Inning No-Hitter

WILLIAMSBURG — Curwensville’s Addison Siple hit two home runs and tossed the first inning of a Mercy Rule-shortened, no-hitter Monday afternoon in a 19-0 drubbing of Williamsburg.

Siple belted a 2-run homer in the Lady Tide’s 10-run first-inning then blasted a grand slam in her team’s 8-run second. She was also hit by a pitch in her second at bat of the first inning and ended her day 2-for-2 with three runs scored and six RBIs.

Curwensville hit four home runs as a team with Addison Warren and Kylah Wos (grand slam) also smacking big flys. Cuwensville added two doubles apiece from Ava Olosky and Briah Peoples and one each by Ava Hainsey, Natalie Wishuck and Sylvia Witherite.

The Lady Tide sent 15 batters to the plate in the marathon first inning, which was helped along by a pair of crucial Williamsburg errors.

Wos was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Siple followed with her first home run. Wischuck’s double and a single from Hainsey had two runners on with no out.

After a popout, an Olosky double plated Wischuck and Hainsey to make it 4-0.

A pair of ground balls could have ended the inning, but Warren and Witherite each reached on errors (with Olosky scoring on the first one) to keep the inning alive, and Brooklynne Brown walked to load the bases for Wos, who unloaded them with a grand slam.

Siple was hit by a pitch after the Wos slam and Wischuck singled. Hainsey reached on a fielder’s choice, which erased Wischuck from the base paths. Peoples doubled to knock in Siple before a groundout ended the inning.

Curwensville piled up eight more runs in the second.

Witherite put the offense in motion with a one-out double before Brown and Wos walked to load the bases for Siple, who sent a 2-0 offering over the centerfield wall for the Lady Tide’s second grand slam of the day.

A Wischuck walk was followed by consecutive doubles from Hainsey, Peoples and Olosky. Wischuck scored on Peoples’s two-bagger. Hainsey got caught trying to steal home before Olosky’s double.

Warren blasted a 3-run home run that plated Peoples and Olosky in front of her to give the Lady Tide an 18-0 lead after two.

Brown scored the final run of the game when she led off the third with a base hit, moved to second on Caitlynn Irwin’s groundout and then stole third and home.

Irwin tossed the final two innings for the Lady Tide to pick up the win. She struck out three batters and did not give up a hit or a walk, but did hit one batter with a pitch.

Hainsey, Olosky, Peoples and Wischuck joined Siple with two hits each. Brown and Wos both scored three runs. Wos knocked in four, with Warren driving in three and Olosky and Peoples each recording two RBIs.

With the win, Curwensville finished the regular season with a record of 13-6. Williamsburg slipped to 0-17.

The Lady Tide now await the release of the District 9 playoff brackets.
