BELLWOOD/ROARING SPRINGS – The Clearfield Lady Bison took to the road Friday afternoon in a rare doubleheader day that saw them play at Bellwood-Antis at 1:00 and Central at 4:30.
Despite holding leads in both games, the Lady Bison went 0-2 on the day. The final was 11-5 at Bellwood-Antis and 8-4 at Central.
Clearfield was up 4-0 on the Lady Blue Devils after the top of the third inning, and the game was tied 4-4 after four innings. A 7-run salvo in the bottom of the fifth inning by the hosts sealed the win.
Aevril Hayward led the visitors with three hits, while Raigan Uncles and Ellie McBride each had two. The lone extra base hit amongst the 10 for the game was a double by McBride. Uncles scored twice in the game. Hayward, McBride, and Uncles each added a stole base as well.
Megan Wisor took the loss on four plus innings of work, as Joell Henry came in to pitch the final two innings.
The winning pitcher was Palynn Gregg, who gave up three earned runs and had five strikeouts.
Parker Martin and Amyra Snyder were the big sticks for the Lady Blue Devils. Martin had two hits, including an opposite field homerun, and three runs batted in, while Snyder had a double and also three RBIs.
Against Central, the Lady Bison went out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Hayward doubled in Eve Siegel, who had reached on an error.
Central tied the game in the bottom of the second.
Clearfield scored again in the top of the fourth, this time on an RBI groundout by Dalayni Kushner to score Haley Billotte, who had tripled off the fence in right.
Once again Central tied the score, this time in their very next at-bat, making it 2-2.
Clearfield then plated two runs in the top of the fifth, on a Siegel 2-run single that scored Ellie and Madi McBride, to take a 4-2 lead into the home half of the fifth.
Once again Central tied it with two to make it 4-4.
After a scoreless top of the sixth, Central scored four runs off of Wisor who had relieved starting pitcher Henry in the previous inning.
Clearfield then got a couple runners on in the top of the seventh inning, but couldn’t score off of Central pitcher Riley Peterson, who threw a complete game, giving up three earned runs and notching two strikeouts.
Ellie McBride led the Lady Bison in game two with three hits, giving her five for the day. Madi McBride, Siegel, and Billotte each had two hits.
The Lady Bison (6-11) have three games remaining in their regular season, home games Monday and Wednesday against Bellefonte and Punxsutawney, sandwiched around Tuesday’s road trip to Greater Johnstown.
The Wednesday game will be a Pink Out Game.
