FLINTON — Addison Siple and Kylah Wos took turns firing shutouts against Glendale Thursday in a doubleheader sweep of the Lady Vikings.
Siple got the start in Game 1 and gave up just two hits, while striking out 13 in a 1-0 victory. After giving up a 2-out triple to Madison Peterson in the first inning, Siple retired 18 straight Glendale batters before a 2-out single from Ava Weld in the bottom of the seventh.
Wos got the nod in Game 2, scattering five hits and walking one in a 10-0 mercy rule win. She also recorded nine strikeouts in the 5-inning game.
Glendale’s Hannah Simmers took the loss in both ends of the doubleheader.
Simmers gave up just one run on five hits in Game 1, while walking three Lady Tide batters and striking out five.
Ava Hainsey’s sacrifice fly with one out in the sixth inning scored courtesy runner Brooklynne Brown with the game’s only run.
Addyson Neiswender started the inning by drawing a four-pitch walk before Addison Warren followed with a base hit. Brown replaced Neiswender on the base paths and moved to third courtesy of a Wos sacrifice bunt.
A line-drive single from Siple loaded the bases for Hainsey, who lifted a fly ball to right field deep enough to score Brown with the winning run.
Siple also hit a triple in the first inning but was left stranded on third by Simmers.
The Lady Tide were able to break through against Simmers in Game 2. They scored two runs in the first inning before hanging back-to-back 5s on the board in the fifth and sixth frames.
Ava Olosky, Natalie Wischuck and Wos all had two hits in the night cap. Olosky, Peoples, Siple and Wos each scored two runs, while Wischuck collected three RBIs.
Wischuck knocked in the first run of the game with a sac fly that plated Wos, who led off with a double. Siple, who followed Wos’ double with a walk, scored on a Hainsey 2-bagger later in the inning.
Briah Peoples ignited the Lady Tide’s five-run fifth with a leadoff double. RBI singles from Wischuck and Wos and a wild pitch that allowed two runs to score were key plays in the inning.
The Lady Tide ended the game with five runs in the fifth as Wischuck’s bases-loaded, two-out single invoked the 10-run rule.
Curwensville improved to 12-6 with the win. Glendale slipped to 7-12.
The Lady Tide travel to Williamsburg on Monday.
