HARRISBURG – State Rep. Dallas Kephart (R-Cambria/Clearfield) on Thursday  addressed the Department of Correction’s (DOC) response to questions posed as a result of public hearings held on the proposed closures of Quehanna Boot Camp and SCI Rockview.

The DOC named members of the steering committee and shared responses to comments made during the public hearings held in Clearfield and Centre counties. The DOC also released the maintenance plans for Quehanna and Rockview, violence reports, recidivism rates and several other answers to questions asked of the DOC.

“Because of the strong show of support from the public at both the Quehanna Boot Camp and SCI Rockview DOC public hearings, and the policy hearing hosted by myself and Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, the DOC released this information,” said Kephart. “The DOC admitted that Quehanna has the most GEDs earned of any correctional institution in the state and has been number one for the past several years. Additionally, the DOC also acknowledged my comment that SCI-Rockview should not be part of any ‘sweetheart deal.’

“I intend to continue pressuring the DOC and the governor’s administration and advocating for Quehanna Boot Camp to remain open,” Kephart stated.
