ST MARYS — The Clearfield Lady Bison were heavy underdogs when they headed north on Wednesday to face the top-ranked Class AAA team in the state according to Max Preps.
Throw in the fact that St. Marys, 11-1 heading into the game, had outscored the Lady Bison 47-1 the last two seasons over the course of four games, including wins in the last two Class AAAA District 9 Finals and you have a mismatch on paper.
No one told the Lady Bison that fact as they scored a run in the top of the first inning, but were blanked the rest of the way as the Lady Dutch scored two runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to eke out the 2-1 walk off win.
Lady Bison lead off hitter Raigan Uncles reached first on a bunt that turned into an error when the first baseman’s throw was in the dirt to the covering second baseman. She then advanced to second base on a passed ball and also stole third.

After an out, Eve Siegel lined a single off the tip of the third baseman’s glove to score Uncles.
Lady Dutch starter Avery Eckels next gave up a bloop hit to Aevril Hayward, but got out of the inning with no further scoring. She threw goose eggs the rest of the way, only allowing two more hits over the final six innings, while walking none and striking out five.
Siegel picked up a second hit and Megan Wisor had a single as well to account for the four total hits allowed by Eckels, who kept her ERA for the season just over the 1.00 mark.
Clearfield starting pitcher Wisor matched Eckels zero for zero for six and two-third innings. Aided by a couple of baserunning blunders by the Lady Dutch and nine strikeouts by Wisor kept the hosts in check for most of the game.
The bottom of the seventh inning started off innocently enough as Wisor was able to get the number eight and nine hitters out via strike out and ground out.
Lead off hitter Molly Hansolvan then picked up her first hit of the game as she lined a 2-1 pitch to center field for a triple, and proceeded to score on a 2-0 wild pitch to number two hitter Giuliana Muccio to knot the game at one each.
Then on a 3-2 pitch Muccio doubled to center for her first hit of the game to put the winning run on second.
Eckels then singled on a 1-2 pitch to score Muccio in walk off fashion. It was Eckels’ third hit of the game.

In the end, Wisor was saddled with the tough luck loss as she gave up six hits for the game, half of those with two outs in the last inning.
The Lady Bison (6-9) will hit the road on Friday for a rare double header as they head to Bellwood-Antis for a 1:00 game on Friday, followed by a 4:30 game at Central, a team that Clearfield defeated 11-1 to start the season way back on March 18.
