Clearfield- The Clearfield VFW Post 1785 hosted a reception to honor the top 8 entries in the VFW Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest, and 6 students from St. Francis School were awarded prizes in the contest.
According to the entry details, Patriot’s Pen is open to 6th, 7th and 8th-grade students and “encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society.”
Prizes and scholarships can be awarded at the post, district, state, and national level. Essays are judged on the students’ knowledge of the theme, theme development, and clarity of ideas. This year’s theme was “My Voice in Democracy.”
