Penfield, PA-   The Woodsy Owl work day at Parker Dam State Park will be April 12.

Registration and group assignments for volunteers will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Park Office in the Environmental Education Classroom. The workday will begin at 9 a.m. followed by a lunch for all volunteers at 1 p.m. provided by the Friends of Parker Dam.

This annual volunteer day/weekend is used to spruce up the park for the coming summer season.  Past projects have included leaf raking, fire ring cleaning, trail work, painting, and other light maintenance projects.

Volunteers who wish to camp for the weekend can pick a campsite on Friday- no reservations this weekend; first-come, first-served only- and as long as they participate in the volunteer session on Saturday the fees for both Friday and Saturday nights will be waived.  Organized volunteer groups, scouts, businesses, etc., should contact the park office so that they can be paired with a project of appropriate scope to their group size.  The phone number is 814-765-0630.

You can keep up on what is happening at the park by liking “Parker Dam State Park” on Facebook; and, you can find more information about state park programs and special events by logging on to the Bureau of State Parks website at www.visitPAparks.com, and clicking on “Events.”

“The primary purpose of Pennsylvania State Parks is to provide opportunities for enjoying healthful outdoor recreation and serve as outdoor classrooms for environmental education.”

Access for People with Disabilities

If you need an accommodation to participate in park activities due to a disability, please contact the park you plan to visit.  parkerdamsp@pa.gov.

With a minimum of one-week notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing may be available for educational programs.
