Clearfield- The Clearfield County Commissioners remind residents of the numerous open seats on the municipal ballot this year, especially three that are write in only due to the timing of resignations.

This year’s primary election will be held May 20 across the state.

Recently, the Clearfield Area School Board of Directors and Clearfield Borough have seen resignations which occurred after the primary ballots were submitted.

All three seats will be on the ballot in May as write in votes. Deadlines to submit petitions to be on the ballot were within 60 days of the election for the school board and 50 days for the borough.

Those wishing to have their names written in can let voters know with signs, pamphlets and handing out materials at polling stations.

The commissioners encourage everyone eligible to get out  and vote and thank all the people who have submitted petitions to be on the ballot.

The primary election narrows down candidates for the election held in November.

The commissioners also declared April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Representatives of Children’s Aid Society spoke to the commissioners and noted that of the 188 children placed in foster care between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024, 168 came from abusive or neglected situations.

CAS is working to increase awareness of the epidemic of child abuse and neglect beginning with advocating Child Abuse Prevention Month, encouraging people to wear blue April 4 and also encouraging schools, local organizations and others to educate and speak out about the most vulnerable.
