As storms traveled through the area Sunday, the Clearfield County Fairgrounds experienced a big hit. The roofing was torn from the grandstands.
“It was not as bad as it could have been,” said Greg Hallstrom, fair board manager.
Despite the damage, he said that the tongue and groove roofing remains mostly intact. Some will need to be replaced, however.
Video was provided to Gant News showing the moment that the roofing lifted.
He noted that the wind came from a strange direction, lifting the roofing from the building. A phone line was also brought down, and landed over a box truck that was loading from the Central PA Outdoor & Sports Show. The fair board members who were available sprung into action to begin cleanup. B&C Pools and Spas of Clearfield and Shawn McCracken are also credited with providing assistance in the incident, quickly getting the roofing off of the truck and helping the vendor get on their way. Hallstrom also said Ben Timko of 768-DECK was instrumental in asking, “What can I do?”
“No one was hurt,” Hallstrom stressed.

The first people on the scene got about 90% of the debris cleared, and then Todd Kling from the Clearfield Borough Maintenance Department came through with a street sweeper to ensure there were no nails.
The grandstand had some repairs done years ago within the parameters that were requested by engineers. Overall, Hallstrom said this is a minor setback.
“There will be a fair, and we will move forward,” Hallstrom said.
