Clarion — Prior to the championship finals of the 2025 District 9 Wrestling Championships on Saturday February 22 inside the Tippin Gymnasium at PennWest Clarion, Curwensville’s Leland Sipes and Clearfield’s Christian Stone were inducted into the District 9 Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Sipes, a 1984 graduate, was the PIAA state runner-up at 132 pounds in his last season with the Golden Tide. He finished his senior year with a record of 27-7 and his career with a mark of 53-34-2.

Sipes joins both of his sons, Nate and Nick Sipes, his brother-in-law Randy Cathcart and nephew Kyle Cathcart in the hall. All but Kyle, who wrestled for Clarion, are Curwensville High School graduates.
A Class of 2013 Clearfield graduate, Stone had a career record of 128-27 for the Bison. He was a 4x District 9 AAA champion, 1x Northwest Regional champion, and 4x state qualifier. He also went on to wrestle for West Virginia University. He joins his father-in-law Brent Lykens in the hall, making both inductees part of a family affair.
