Clearfield- At the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center (CCCTC), students in the masonry program are honing their skills through hands-on projects that bridge classroom theory with practical application. Masonry student, Jaron Garman, from Curwensville High School, is currently working on a project that involves constructing two pillars with an arch—an essential exercise in masonry craftsmanship.
This project challenges students to combine technical knowledge with precision and creativity. Building pillars with an arch requires an understanding of structural integrity, load distribution, and aesthetic design.
The students learn essential techniques such as measuring, cutting, and joint striking, ensuring every block and brick fits perfectly. Additionally, they are introduced to concepts like keystones, which are crucial in maintaining the stability of an arch.
These projects not only enhance technical skills but also instill a sense of pride and accomplishment in students. For Jaron and his peers, the experience of working on real-world structures prepares them for a successful career in the masonry industry.
