It is coyote hunt season in the region and hunters are gearing up for a couple of good events in the coming months.
The famous Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s coyote hunt is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 21 through Sunday Feb. 23.
Last year’s hunt comprised of 4,189 registered hunters who harvested 263 coyotes. Prize money totaled $16,756 was divided up 50 percent, 30 percent and 20 percent to the top three place winners.
Dustin Andreis harvested the heaviest coyote—a 53.15-pound male. Peter Evanoff finished in second place with a 53-pound male and Michael Stockdale Jr. in third place with a 52.05-pound male.
Randy Clark harvested the heaviest female. It was 41.35 pounds.

The Take’m Out Coyote Hunt is now in it’s 64th year, coinciding with the Central PA Outdoor and Sports Show which will be held March 14 through the 16th at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds.
The 2024 event drew 225 hunters that harvested 35 coyotes. First place with the heaviest dog went to Bob Buriak at 46.8 pounds. Hector Tores took the heaviest female at 44.8 pounds.

In-person pre-registration events will take place at Jim’s Sports Center, Clearfield on March 7 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and March 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A final in-person event will be held at the Toasted Monkey on March 14 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
