HYDE — The season is nearing a conclusion for the Clearfield Lady Bison, and it means mixed emotions. Monday night, it was declared a night to honor a pair of seniors in their final year on the court. Hannah Glunt and Caitlyn Albertson got their flowers to start the night long before they got the ball for warmups. But, after the smiles and hugs from teammates and family, there was business at hand as the Bellefonte Lady Red Raiders were in town looking for an upset.
The upset on this night were the visitors at the final buzzer. After being decimated in the first game back in December, Bellefonte suffered a similar fate as the Lady Bison rolled their way to a 64-24 victory, their 13th on the year.
Nothing was stopping Clearfield on this night, both defensively and offensively. The first quarter set the tone, as the Lady Bison put up 28 points to start the evening, while limiting Bellefonte to only nine. The 28 points scored in the first quarter was the highest of the game, and one of the highest for Clearfield on the entire year. The home squad kept the momentum in the second quarter, outscoring Bellefonte by 10 points.
At halftime, it was a 46-17 margin, just shy of a running clock.
That would change in the second half as Clearfield wasted no time to put that clock into effect. Bellefonte was held to only seven points in the entire second half, including being shut out the entire fourth quarter. The Lady Bison gave a curtain call to their seniors and many of their starters to let their younger players get some minutes and experience.
Eve Helsel led Clearfield with a game-high 23 point night, with Sonny Diehl adding in another 19. Eve’s older sister, Mia, netted 12 points. For Bellefonte, only Abby Herr hit double figures, netting 12 points.
Clearfield (13-4) gets a few days to get ready for their next contest, as they will make their last road trip for the regular season on Thursday night when they travel to Bishop Guilfoyle. The two squads met on December 13 in the Bison Gymnasium, with Bishop Guilfoyle squeezing out a 54-50 win.
Tip-off for varsity is at 7:15 p.m.
