BOALSBURG — With the season drawing to a close, time is running out for teams to make a final push to the end of the 2024-2025 campaign. It also means time is running out for games to be made up that got delayed from the beginning of the year. The Curwensville Golden Tide would have one of those make-up games on Saturday afternoon, making the trip to Boalsburg to face the Wolfpack of St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy for a matinee that originally was to be the season-opening contest for both squads.
The day game started well for the visiting squad, who was looking to get off the skid of dropping their last three games. However, after the first quarter, the Wolfpack went on the hunt and ran away without looking back. Curwensville would drop its fourth-straight contest, 75-54.
The Golden Tide started strong, leaning on top scorer Davis Fleming to lead the team. They would do so and held a two-possession lead after one quarter, 14-8. Fleming finished with a team-high 31 points, shooting 70 percent from the foul line and hitting 10 shots from the floor.
After the opening quarter, however, St. Joseph’s was not to be denied.
The Wolfpack would outscore Curwensville by a 67-40 margin over the final 24 minutes, with each quarter having no less than 20 points put in the net. Jayden Stamm led the charge, draining a game-high 35 points. Chase Luckovich would bucket 17 on the day, and Ethan Bowen accounted for another 15 points.
Curwensville (5-12) is in the midst of a three-game stretch on the road, and that will continue on Tuesday night when they travel to Houtzdale to face the Black Knights of Moshannon Valley. The two squads faced off on December 18 inside Patton Hall, with Moshannon Valley squeaking out a 55-50 victory over the Golden Tide.
Varsity tip off will be at approximately 7:15 p.m.
