HYDE — To paraphrase a classic commercial, double the basketball, double the fun. That is what many fans, peers and families got to experience on Friday night in the Bison Gymnasium as Richland and Clearfield got to take part in a doubleheader on the hardwood for both the girls and boys squads.
The early tip went to the gentlemen, and it would be a tight contest from tip to buzzer, with both teams playing tough. This night, after two rough games to start the week, went to the Bison cagers, taking a 50-43 victory to improve to 10-7 on the season.

Both teams came in hyped for the first quarter, swapping the lead and keeping things close. A two-point gap, 16-14 Clearfield remained after one quarter, but it was the second eight minutes that got things going the way of the home team.
Fueled by an eight-point run by Braison Patrick, who finished with a game-high 23 points, the Bison put up 15 points while the defense limited Richland to only eight. Heading into the locker room, the Rams were trailing by three possessions. Patrick also led the team on the glass, finishing with seven rebounds.
The Rams were not going down quietly, as they put on a strong third quarter to cut the lead to five points. Glaiden Hale paced the visitors with 17 points, with Noah Lushko adding in another 15.
Clearfield, though kept just enough distance to prevent the Rams from getting too close, as they edged Richland in the final quarter, 9-7.
Along with Patrick, Evett Maines, who returned to the lineup after being sidelined due to injury, put up 15 points, while Elijah Glunt netted another 10.

After clearing the floor following the boys game, the warm-up clock got reset and the ladies got the opportunity to take to the floor to see if it would be a sweep, or a split, between the two schools.
Just like the boys, this game started out as a close contest between the two, with neither having a clear edge. It was the second half when the Lady Bison found their momentum, capitalizing on opportunities to capture a 54-44 victory, moving to 12-4 on the year.
Early on, the feeling out process between the squads kept the game interesting and close. Richland would hold a very slim one-point advantage at the end of the first quarter, 9-8. Still, the Lady Bison were not having many struggles, coming out in the second quarter and pushing the ball down the court. Freshman Eve Helsel, who paced the Lady Bison with a game-high 27 points, got things going quickly as she put up eight of the team’s 13 points in the quarter. At the end of 16 minutes, Clearfield went into the locker room with a two-point lead, 21-19.

The third quarter is when Clearfield began to pull away, namely due to miscues on the part of Richland, and points coming from it. Clearfield drained 17 points in the third while limiting the Lady Rams to just eight.
When it came down to the final eight minutes, execution was the word as both teams would see a lot of time at the foul line. Combined, the two squads had 26 foul shots in the final quarter, with Clearfield having a higher percentage at the line, going 10-for-14.
Fouls became the only choice the Rams had in the final quarter, with three of their starters ultimately fouling out by night’s end. Richland finished 11-for-21 at the line, with Clearfield going 18-for-24.
Along with Helsel, Sonny Diehl finished in double figures with 15 points. For Richland, Alyssa Amenti topped the stats with 12 points.
