CLEARFIELD – A Drifting man was sentenced Monday to state prison for threatening a woman and her daughter with a gun.
Daniel James Confer, 49, pleaded guilty during sentencing court to felony possession of firearm prohibited as well as misdemeanor terroristic threats in one case and simple assault in a second case.
Judge Paul E. Cherry sentenced him to a total of 15 months to three years in state prison.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Dec. 17, 2023, police were called to a Cooper Township residence for a domestic situation. The caller said she had locked her and her 14-year-old daughter in a bedroom to get away from Confer. Before police arrived, Confer left the home in a white pick-up truck.
A trooper was able to locate a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop on it. Confer was the driver.
In an interview with investigators, the teen victim and her mother stated that a verbal altercation became physical while Confer restrained the girl which caused injuries to her hands and wrists. After learning they had called 911, Confer grabbed a gun and told them “you all are going to die” while holding it.
The second incident occurred Dec. 23, 2023. The same victim reported that she was sleeping in bed when Confer entered the room and began arguing with her. The situation escalated with Confer holding the victim down on the bed with both hands around her neck which cut off her air flow. She was able to escape, run to another room and call 911.
Police located Confer hiding under a bed in the basement of the residence. He was taken into custody without incident, according to the report.
Prior to sentencing, both victims were in court where both asked to be able to have contact with Confer. The judge agreed to this condition.
