Lawrence Twp.- Despite the frigid temperatures outside, Lawrence Township supervisors were able to convene on Tuesday night for the second meeting of the 2025 calendar year.
One of the main topics of the night was a letter received by the board by the Crown Crest Memorial Park. The letter came from legal counsel representing the cemetery, asking for a solution as to how their funding would be released. It was noted that in past years, the township has offered to pay for items needed by the cemetery with the funding.
Supervisors Scott Way and Randy Powell both suggested that they hold onto the funding, citing the potential of having to take back over the cemetery later on. But, in doing so, they suggested to put the funding into an account that will accrue interest. Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner suggested giving Crown Crest the money in the hopes to avoid any litigation between the two parties.
In the end, the motion was made and accepted to move the funding into a money market account. Along with that, supervisors requested the township solicitor, William Shaw, to draft a letter in response to Crown Crest Memorial Park.
During the meeting, it was asked of residents to not plow or put down salt or anti-skid material on the township roadways. Although the assistance has been appreciated, supervisors noted that it is a liability issue for the township in case accidents or injuries occur.
Just over $103,000 was approved to be transferred from the township’s general fund into the Fire Capital Fund, which satisfies the yearly obligation of the township.
Township supervisors will reconvene on Tuesday, February 4, at 5 p.m.
