WILLIAMSBURG — When the Curwensville girls basketball team played Williamsburg in early December, the Lady Pirates sprinted out to a 32-0 lead and held a 40-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter on the way to a decisive 97-19 decision at Patton Hall.
The Lady Tide were able to up their offensive output in Tuesday’s rematch, but still had no answer for Williamsburg’s Leanna Royer, who drilled five 3-pointers and posted 32 points in a 99-32 victory for the Lady Pirates. Royer had 25 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals in the first meeting between the teams.
Anastasia Ranalli (23), Regan Prough (17) and Anna Colbert (10) joined Royer in double figures as Williamsburg improved to 11-2 on the season.
The Lady Pirates led 32-6 after one quarter, thanks in large part to Royer, who netted 14 in the frame.
Williamsburg’s lead ballooned to 57-14 by the break as Royer scored eight more and Prough added seven.
Curwensville’s Karleigh Freyer made some noise in the second half, scoring five in the third quarter and six more in the fourth to reach 15 for the game, but the Lady Pirates continued adding to their advantage. Ranalli paced Williamsburg’s 23-point third-quarter effort with eight as the hosts led 80-21 heading to the fourth where they outscored the Lady Tide 19-11 to set the final.
Briah Peoples had six points and Addison Warren added five for the Lady Tide, who dipped to 0-9 this season.
Curwensville is back in action Monday, January 20, visiting Juniata Valley.
