DUBOIS – Building on momentum from the 2023 theme of “People You Should Meet,” the DuBois Area Historical Society’s 16th Spirit of DuBois Lantern Walk will follow-up with “More People You Should Meet”.
“Last year’s walk, which featured prominent and not so prominent individuals from DuBois’ past, was well received,” said Tom Schott, chair of the Lantern Walk.
“It was decided in January that we had a number of other interesting people that we could feature in an entirely new program.”
The DuBois Area Historical Society’s 16th Spirit of DuBois Lantern Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, with the first tour leaving the E. D. Reitz Museum, 30 W. Long Ave., at 5 p.m. with additional tours every 15 minutes.
To make advance reservations for a specific walk time, telephone 814-371-4627 between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m., starting Sept. 20.
Tour groups will be limited to 20 people. Walk-ins are also welcome and will be assigned to the next available tour.
The walk is a little less than a mile on downtown sidewalks and will last a little over an hour. Along the way, the tour groups will meet with a pair of educators and a student, an attorney, a doctor, a lumbering entrepreneur, a patient wife, a sister and a slightly stinky rodent.
Performing are Lantern Walk veterans: Sue Stapleton, Darius Clement, Tom Shade, Darla Brunnquell, Rocco Shahayda and Grace Prontock, as well as newcomers Kate Kunkle, Linda Lupro, Jennifer Alker-Milliron and Debbie Mechling.
Admission to the Spirit of DuBois Lantern Walk is $5 for adults and $3 for students, with children sixth grade and younger free if accompanied by an adult.
A basket raffle and 50/50 are part of the activities. All proceeds benefit the DuBois Area Historical Society.
The program is suitable for all ages.
Two hundred and five people attended the 2023 Spirit of DuBois Lantern Walk. Total attendance during the walk’s first 15 years was 3,306.
