CLEARFIELD – A DuBois man will be spending time in state prison for breaking into a home and stealing several firearms.
Rhett Donavan Eisman, 32, pleaded guilty to felony counts of theft and burglary during colloquy court on Monday. Judge Paul E. Cherry sentenced him to serve one to three years in state prison.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the victim reported that he and his father were gone from the Sandy Township residence for about three hours on Feb. 21. When they returned, he noticed the firearms were missing.
The victim showed officers that someone had opened a file cabinet and scattered a box of old check receipts around a room.
A Remington flint lock long gun that had been near the cabinet was missing along with some black powder.
A Winchester rifle and a single-shot rifle style pellet gun, which were located in another room, were also missing.
A neighbor had noticed a suspicious vehicle parked in front of the victim’s home while he was gone. She took photos of the vehicle, which was a silver colored Jeep.
She saw two men exit the Jeep and was able to provide descriptions of them. A third man stayed in the vehicle, she told investigators.
The next day the Jeep, registered to Eisman, was spotted in Sandy Township. Officers followed it and witnessed it driving erratically. They were able to see three long guns in the front of the back seat.
Eventually, Eisman and a woman in the vehicle were taken into custody and the vehicle was towed to the police impound lot.
In his interview with police, Eisman admitted to driving to the residence, going inside and removing the guns, numerous documents and black powder. He also confessed to stealing a chain saw from the home.
Eisman would only provide the first names of the others involved with the burglary and “stated he would take the responsibility of the crime,” according to the criminal complaint.
The total value of the items stolen was $1,650.
