CLEARFIELD – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that a section of Route 879 in Clearfield County has been closed due to flooding of the Susquehanna River between the intersection of Airport Road in Lawrence Township and the intersection of Route 970 in Goshen Township/Shawville.
The road is expected to remain closed until 3 p.m. Friday, dependent upon the amount of continued rainfall.
PennDOT is closely monitoring roadways and the impacts of flooding due to heavy rains with the arrival of Tropical Storm Debby to the region.
PennDOT will issue updates as needed throughout the day. PennDOT also cautions motorists to never drive through flooded roadways, as it takes just two feet of fast-moving water to float a car.
Anyone who drives around barriers intended to close a road can face increased penalties if emergency responders are called to rescue motorists who disregard traffic control signs.
