CLEARFIELD – Lisa Kovalick, executive director of the Redevelopment Authority of Clearfield County, held the first Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) public meeting during Clearfield Borough’s committee meeting Thursday night.
She reported that the borough’s CDBG allocation is $116,400 with $95,488 going to shovel-ready projects and $20,952 going to administration of program.
Uses for this grant could potentially be public improvements such as water, sewer as well as stormwater construction, sidewalk improvements, rehabilitation of deteriorating housing, mitigation of blighted areas as well as energy conservation projects.
Street improvements to correct storm drainage of Orr’s Run including replacement of Orr’s Run Culvert is a result of the CDBG allocation.

Residents’ suggestions and idea could be noted in the CDBG Community Development Plan.
The second hearing will be held Thursday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. at the borough building.
Fire Chief Andrew Smith reported that there were no calls during the day and evening of July 4, and commends the residents of Clearfield Borough and the surrounding area for being safe during July 4.
Clearfield Regional Police Chief Vincent McGinnis reported that there were 748 incidents total for June. The incidents ranged from routine traffic stops to warrants being served as well as drug arrests.
Borough Council Vice President Steve Livergood asked McGinnis if there was a drop or increase in incidents since the regionalization of the two police departments and McGinnis informed council that the calls have been the same as last year.
There was no quorum for the Planning and Community Development Committee, but there was a recommendation to approve to close Cherry Street (Front Street to Second Street) and Van Valzah Avenue (Cherry Street to Market Street) on Tuesday, July 25 at 4:30 p.m. for the National Night Out Block Party event that will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
This is a chance for residents to interact positively with the regional police department, the Clearfield Borough Volunteer Fire Department as well as other organizations. All residents of Clearfield are encouraged to attend.
There also was no quorum for the Public Works Committee, but there were recommendations to advertise for heating fuel bids and to pass the resolution to apply for the Chester Street Improvement Multimodal Grant through the state Department of Community & Economic Development.
