CLEARFIELD – Four runs in the first-inning from the Lady Bison offense paired with another shutout victory in the circle for Emma Hipps proved to be plenty as the Lady Bison defended home field in a 5-0 Mountain League victory over visiting Tyrone Friday evening.

Make it 14 more strikeouts for the righty, Emma Hipps, bringing her total to 60 through the team’s first five games of the season. Olivia Bender also went yard twice for the Lady Bison as the power hitting catcher now has four of the team’s six round trippers to begin the season.

Lauren Ressler also tied the school record for doubles in a career, with 24 for her career. Her 24 two-baggers came in just two seasons and five additional games. For Clearfield, Alexis Bumbarger, Hipps, and Ruby Singleton each had two-hit games to add more offensive production for the Lady Bison in the weekend victory.

Clearfield started the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles from Singleton and Hipps. Ressler then smacked a two-run double to right field to open the score at 2-0. Olivia Bender was up next and made it a fourth straight hit to open the bottom of the first and extend the game to 4-0.

The Lady Bison would add one more run on the solo blast by Olivia Bender, her second homer in as many at-bats to make it 5-0. While it was the last run of the game, it was plenty as Hipps went the distance once again for Clearfield. She limited the Tyrone offense to just three hits and picked up her second shutout win in as many days.

What started as a tough week due to weather turned into a solid ending as Clearfield now sits at 5-0. As for Tyrone, they fell to 2-3 on the season after Friday’s game. Clearfield will look to make it a 6-0 start as the team is back in action on Monday, April 25 as the Lady Bison head out to face District 9 foe, Punxsutawney at 4:30 p.m.
