EDINBORO/WATERFORD — In this covid-ravaged of a schedule, for the third consecutive Saturday, the Clearfield Bison wrestling team took to the mats and came away with a clean sweep. The last two weekends were quad meets while this Saturday was a quad meet plus a dual meet thrown in for extra measure.
The result was the same as the Bison went 4-0 on the day, raising their overall record to 14-3 on the almost completed regular season.
General McLane High School in Edinboro was the site of the quad meet. Clearfield held on for a close win over HIckory 36-34, destroyed Eisenhower 60-3, and then defeated the host school 41-23.
Then the Bison had to win the final two bouts to come from behind to defeat their next hosts at Fort LeBoeuf High School in Waterford 30-26.
In the opening match against Hickory, the Bison were up 36-18 on the strength of five pins and a forfeit but then gave up the final 16 points over the last three bouts via giving up two forfeits and losing a match by major decision to make the final so close.

The Bison made quick work of Eisenhower with six of their eight falls being of the first period variety in the 60-3 thrashing.

In the win over the Lancers of General McLane, it was once again the bonus points that made the difference as the Bison had four falls and received one forfeit for 30 of their 41 points in the 41-23 victory.

After the 3-0 sweep of the quad meet in Edinboro, the Bison loaded up the bus and made the short trip to Waterford to face of with Fort LeBoeuf High School.
That turned out to be a back-and-forth affair as the Bison won the first bout to go up 3-0, lost three in a row to go down 11-3, won four in a row to go back on top 21-11, and gave up their customary two forfeits sandwiched around a 2-0 loss to fall behind 26-21 with two bouts to go.
Nolan Barr then eked out a 2-1 win to give the Bison a shot while down only 26-24, and then junior classmate Luke Freeland sealed the deal and a 4-0 sweep for the Bison with a second period fall that set the final 30-26.

Despite the 4-0 sweep on the day, only three individual Bison went 4-0. They were Justin Hand (11-5 on the season), Hayden Kovalick (13-2), and Oliver Billotte (16-1).
Going 3-1 were Nolan Barr (15-2), Karson Kline (14-3), Carter Chamberlain (9-7), and Mark McGonigal (14-3).
Will Domico (9-8) and Wyatt Reorda (9-9) each went 2-2 for the day. Patrick Knepp was 1-0 (2-2), Luke Freeland was 1-2 (5-4) and Evan Davis (11-6) went 1-3.
The Bison (14-3) will host the final regular season match of the year on Monday night when District 6 AAA power Central Mountain invades the Arthur J. Weiss Gymnasium.
Then the Bison will rest up for the post season as they host the District 9 AAA Championships on February 20.
